Who you are contracting with

LogisticID is a freight forwarder. It arranges transport; it does not perform it. The vehicles that carry a consignment, and the people driving them, belong to independent transport providers contracted for that movement.

This is a description of a contract rather than a disclaimer. A forwarder is answerable for arranging carriage competently — choosing a suitable provider, passing on the right instructions, and holding the arrangement together. A carrier is answerable for the goods while it has them. The two obligations are separate, they are insured separately, and which one applies to a particular loss depends on the arrangement and the terms agreed for that shipment.

LogisticID owns no vehicles, no warehouse and no terminal, and that is a working position rather than a gap. A company with a trailer standing idle has a view about which trailer your goods should travel on. A company with none can pick the provider that actually fits the load.

What that means for a shipment: LogisticID is answerable for arranging carriage competently, and the provider that carries the goods is answerable for them while it has them. Both are settled in the commercial terms for the movement rather than assumed, and what LogisticID asks of a transport provider is published in full.

Liability and insurance are not the same thing

These two are constantly confused, and the confusion is expensive in one direction only — the shipper’s.

• Liability cover responds to a party’s legal responsibility for what went wrong, to the limits and exclusions of that party’s policy. Carrier liability for international road carriage is typically limited by weight under the applicable convention rather than by the value of the goods, so a valuable, light consignment can be worth far more than the liability that attaches to it.
• Cargo insurance is cover on the goods themselves, bought by or for the cargo owner. It is the product that actually responds to loss or damage of the goods regardless of who was at fault, and it is a separate purchase from a separate party.

A shipper relying on a carrier’s or a forwarder’s liability cover has not insured their goods. They have relied on someone else’s limited responsibility for them. Whether that is enough depends on the value, the route and the terms — which is a question for the shipper and their broker or insurer, not one this page can answer.

Where LogisticID stands today

LogisticID holds no insurance policy at present. Freight-forwarder liability cover is not in force. The company is registered; arranging cover is a separate step that has not been taken. Arranging cover on the goods is not a service offered today either. Nothing on this website should be read as saying that a shipment is insured.

A shipper who needs the goods covered arranges that themselves, or through an insurance broker, before the goods move. Where a shipment is being planned, the insurance position is one of the things settled in commercial review rather than assumed.

This is a description of how the two products differ. It is not insurance advice, and it is not a statement about what any particular policy would cover — that depends on the policy, the shipment and the terms agreed.

What happens to what you send

A quote request is composed into an email in your own browser and sent from your own mail client. There is no account, no database and no customer-relationship system behind this website: nothing you type is stored by it. What the site does record, and only after you allow analytics, is set out in the privacy policy and the cookies and storage notice.

A request is not a booking. LogisticID reviews the requirement and responds with commercial terms; a movement is arranged once those terms are agreed, and the website terms set out what using this site does and does not create. Rates and transit times depend on the route, cargo, equipment and date, so none is quoted before the requirement has been read — see what a quote request involves.
