Krone's data sheet adds the condition: 3,000 mm needs a 50 mm neck with a 915 mm coupling-height tractor or an 80 mm neck with 885 mm. Schmitz's S.CS MEGA publishes 'up to 3,200 mm'. This is the ceiling that produces the mega-trailer design: 4.00 m overall minus tyres, chassis and roof leaves the ~3.00 m internal height Krone quotes. National derogations exist — Article 4(2) permits member states to allow vehicles in NATIONAL transport that deviate from point 1.3 among others, which is why higher combinations run lawfully in some states and not across borders. Considerations

What constrains it.

  • The advantage is volumetric; dense cargo gains nothing from it and may be better on a standard trailer
  • Reduced ground clearance makes ramps, gradients, humps and rough yards a genuine risk of grounding
  • Dock height compatibility should be checked at both ends before the vehicle is ordered
  • Ferry, rail and tunnel arrangements may impose their own constraints on the equipment
  • It is a specialist unit, so availability is narrower and short-notice substitution is not assured
  • Any stacking plan depends on whether the goods and their packaging can actually bear a second tier
  • Permitted dimensions and weights vary by country and must be confirmed for the specific route and movement
