There is no Czech seaport, and that defines the lane
This is the fact to start from: the Czech Republic is landlocked. There is no such thing as a direct sea shipment to Prague, Brno or Ostrava. A container moving by sea from China arrives at a gateway port on the northern European coast — Hamburg and Rotterdam are the usual candidates — and is then carried inland by road or by rail.
That makes every sea shipment on this corridor at least two distinct legs performed by different parties under different arrangements. It also means the port of discharge and the place of delivery are two different points. A quotation that names only the port is answering half the question, and the half it leaves out is often the more variable one.
The same is true of responsibility. The agreed delivery term has to be precise about whether it ends at the quay, at an inland terminal or at the consignee's door, because on a landlocked lane those are three materially different commitments rather than three ways of saying the same thing.
Choosing the gateway is choosing the inland leg

Road or rail inland, and the empty container problem
The inland leg can be a road movement of the container from the port to the door, or an intermodal train to a Czech inland terminal followed by a short road delivery. Road is direct and flexible. Rail moves boxes in quantity between fixed terminals and adds a handling point plus a final road leg at the end, and it only helps where a terminal is genuinely convenient to the destination.
There is a constraint on both that is easy to overlook: the container has to come back. An empty box delivered deep inland must be returned to the coast or repositioned, and that movement is part of the routing and part of the cost. It is one of the reasons the cheapest sea leg does not reliably produce the cheapest delivered shipment.
It also puts a limit on how long the container may be held at the destination before additional charges begin. The applicable period is set by whoever provides the equipment and varies. Establish it before the box leaves the port, because the point at which most shippers discover it is the point at which it has already been exceeded.
Overland rail from Asia is a separate question
Rail from Asia is genuinely relevant here, because a landlocked destination removes some of sea freight's advantage: the cargo has to leave the coast and travel inland whichever way it arrives. That narrows the practical gap between the two.
Two cautions apply. First, an Asian rail routing terminates at a European rail terminal, not at the consignee, so unless the destination has its own siding there is still a final road leg — the shipment is multimodal either way. Second, nothing on this page asserts that any such routing is currently operating, is reliable, or is available. Viability changes, and it must be confirmed for the specific period and specific goods rather than assumed.
Inbound: China to the Czech Republic
Inbound, the recurring question is where the goods enter free circulation. Import formalities may be completed at the gateway port, or the goods may move inland under a customs procedure and be declared closer to the consignee. The two produce different paperwork, different timing and a different allocation of responsibility.
Which is appropriate depends on the goods, the parties and the arrangements in place, and it is not something a forwarder decides on a shipper's behalf. It should be settled with a licensed customs agent or the relevant authority before the container is discharged, because retrofitting a different approach after arrival is slow and usually costly.
Outbound: the Czech Republic to China

If the inland leg slips, the sea leg is missed, and the gap to the next opportunity is measured in the interval between services rather than in hours.
